Comfortable bed, perfect location, HELPFUL staff. We truly enjoyed the double room which was amazing. Continental breakfast was usually nice. Best base for exploring Amsterdam.
-
comfortable location, lovely gardens. the executive queen room suited us: it had an individual safe, an electronic key card and a work desk. moreover, hotel had its private parking.

Location & friendly helpful staff; large room
We had several problems. We stayed there on the recommendation of a friend who had stayed there several years ago. In the meantime, the hotel had bee remodeled in a very modern style which was not to our liking. The bathroom bath/shower had no privacy as they were in the room & not separated. We thought the hotel was overpriced for the room & it had no view. The temperature controls didnt work properly nor did the phone & clock. While all the staff was friendly & some knowlegeable, some of the staff working at reception (they dont have a concierge) were lacking knowledge about restaurants & just looked at the web for recommendatins. Restaurant recommendations are important & we rely on the experience & personal knowledge of hotel staff

I loved the design of the hotel. it's small but this makes it very cosy. the service is excellent and the location - only 5 mins walk from the centre. I would definitely recommend it!

The canal House was new when we stayed last week. We were extremely happy with our room, it was beautiful. The only problem is that we were downstairs, behind the public bathrooms and on several occassions our room smelled like a bathroom and walking down the stairs it also smelled. The staff was great, friendly and accomodating, especially the waitress that works in the morning, she was the best!. I would efinitely return here and definitely reccomend. The manager was also quite nice.

Everything. The customer service, food, location and general feel of the canal house was relaxing and pleasant. The location allowed for easy access to public transport or a short walk to many attractions. The breakfast included each morning was wonderful and the staff always greated you as you entered or exited the property. I would definitely recommend the Canal house for Holiday, Business or getaway travel. The toiletries were complimentary and spa like - the bath contained large tub and separate shower with double sinks.
The stairway is very narrow and difficult to traverse, however there is an elevator.

Part of the history of Amsterdam, the hotel has been updated so as to make it essentially a boutique designer hotel. It is very conveniently located, very quiet, with magnificently comfortable beds. The staff is courteous and attentive. Breakfast is quite good.
There was no separate bathroom. The design aspects at the price charged did not make up for the fact that the bathtub was in the bedroom, The design may be a bit too Gothic for some tastes. Also, the wifi network, though good, has a great many protections so as to make it a bit difficult to use for some business purposes.

The staff were helpful. The bed was comfortable. There was plenty of hot water.
The decor made extensive use of black, deep purple and stainless steel or aluminium. The beautiful ceiling plasterwork in the dining room was obscured by nine huge black lampshades. Access to our superior double room was through the kitchen. The bathroom formed part of the bedroom affording very little privacy. This formerly gracious canal house has been stripped of its previous character and charm.

Food was generally of good quality and well prepared. The breakfast menu was a little limited, but sufficient if only staying a few days. The hotel is boutique themed, and may not be to everyone's taste, but beds are comfortable, and the room was stocked with full size gels, shampoos, and disposable razors which is unusual in this room rate range.
The actual room sizes are small in comparison to a business room in a chain franchise. There was a minibar, but not stocked with very much of interest. The biggest disappointment was the lack of coffee making facilities in the room. I would have traded the Bose iPad music docking station for a instant coffee maker any day of the week. The flat screen tv and cd player worked well, but there were no pay tv options, and the tv choices were the usual mix of European free to air channels. the bath and shower unit were not separated from the sleeping area, some people sharing a room may find this a problem. The colour scheme of the rooms are dark chocolate and mauve. Whilst these may be chic boutique hotel colours, they do tend to make small rooms feel even smaller. The rear gardens were out of bounds during my visit due to a complete renovation being undertaken. Smokers beware, that smoking is forbidden anywhere in the hotel.

We had a lovely time at The Canal House Hotel. It was perfectly located, just out of the centre to be quiet and relaxed but near enough to walk into. It is set on a pretty canal and within walking distance of the museums - just near The Anne Frank House, and shopping areas. Our room was very small but clean and comfortable. I particularly liked the fact that we could work the air conditioning and also that we could open the huge windows as I hate a hot room! Food was super with a good selection of hot and cold breakfast and the one night we had dinner there it was delicious! In fact the best meal we had during our stay. Staff were friendly and attentive.
For such a small room it did seem a little expensive. It would have been nice to have had tea and coffee making facilities. Our room faced the garden which would have been a plus if it was finished! It is apparently going to be delightful but was a pile of rubble when we stayed.

Staff were uniformly helpful and accommodating--we arrived two full hours before stated check-in time and they not only allowed us to stow bags in a (fairly tight) area but got all the bags to our room up steep and winding stairs while we had a bite to eat, and without asking if we wished for help. The decor is beautiful and striking and very chic, with a constant theme from entry through guest rooms. The room had every comfort, including really good soaps and a somewhat larger than normal closet safe. My admiration of one of the lamps in the lounge/dining area (I was taking a picture) resulted in our waiter telling me the designer, adding some more info about other lighting in the room and telling me where the shop was. Nice to have such knowledable staff. Then, at dinner, I did not want any of the available desserts after a fairly heavy meal, and they prepared sliced oranges with a bit of sugar and grand marnier for me. Delicious and perfect and the waiter's idea. We also had to leave early, and breads, cereals, etc. were fully laid out before 6:30 A.M. Wake-up call and taxi arrived exactly when requested. A really good hotel with a good kitchen as well.
I can't say we "did not like this" as it did not inconvenience us--but if there was any way for the hotel to include an elevator (perhaps building outward into the large garden) I can only think it would even broaden their appeal.

Best surprise was an upgrade to a spacious suite, tastefully decorated with a view onto the canal.

The room was very comfortable with every amenity and the location was perfect - quiet yet convenient to everything.
